How our pieces are made. Inside the making of a pair of custom Sterling silver Ear Plugs.

Often, LUGDUN ARTISANS is tasked to create a unique piece that not only is "different" in design, but also functional in use. Last month, our focus was on Ear Plugs.

Now, what are Ear Plugs you might ask. A plug (sometimes called earplug or earspool) in the context of body modification, is a short, cylindrical piece of jewelry commonly worn in larger-gauge body piercings. Modern western plugs are also called flesh tunnels.

The request from our customer was very simple; "make me a pair or silver Ear Plugs that I can use in combination with your available ear weights." As an artist in his own right, he gave us the creative freedom to develop a design that would distinguish itself from the rest and be representative of an international figure. With that said, LUGDUN ARTISANS' founder, Marcos Miranda got busy.

The design would consist of 2 overlapping pieces that make a tight lock in lieu of using a more common thread lock or concave design. One of the reasons for this design, was to ensure that the plug would not easily fall off the ear while supporting a hanger or ear weight.

Its distinct design consists of a decorated face on the front side of the piece, while having a protruding rear end that is tapered on the lower half to allow for the use of hangers.
